understanding RESEARCH

what is RESEARCH?

Based on Oxford dictionary (2000), research means "a detailed and careful study of". In Malay, research means "penyelidikan".

However, Chambers English Dictionary defines research as:

1. a careful search
2. investigation
3. systematic investigation towards increasing the sum of knowledge

According to Fellows and Liu (2008), research can be considered as "voyage of discovery", contribution to a body of knowledge and theory, a study of materials or sources in order to establish a new facts and conclusion, and research is a learning process".



therefore, i would say research is conducting a study such as through investigation, identification, analization, etc. that involved collecting data, in order to contribute to a body of knowledge. it will require time and budget allocation.
